600 page views! Wow!

Today marks 600 page views.  When I started this blog I really wasn't sure anyone would read it, but this is great!  Who ever is reading, leave me a comment and tell me what teaching strategies and info you would like to hear more about.

Just as a side note, I have been using the structured powerpoint approach with my lectures for about a week now.  It really helps me with time management.  I feel like I will be able to cover more than ever with greater understanding.

For any of my students that may be reading, the quizzes scheduled for this past snowday WILL be given when we return to school on Tuesday.  Make sure you come with questions so we can review.

I leave you with some cute entertainment.  Today's LOLz Cat:

First day

Well day one is over.  My new classes were very capable of using soapbox.  They seemed to enjoy it and it functioned well.  I also used my structured powerpoints and I felt very prepared.

The students really enjoyed using the technology.  I'll you posted.

Student Contest

Pretty neat article here from the Associated Press about a contest for students to patent inventions.  Check it out and let me know what you think!

The countdown

Here we go!  Little less than a week is left in the current semester and I can't help but feel excited about my upcoming classes.  I love teaching Algebra 2, and I now have the change to integrate video game design into that class.  I do have reservations about the connection though.  I have had a few students comment that they did not really see the connection between "math class" and globaloria.  One of my major goals for the upcoming semester is to help make that connection clearer.

I do want to say that I am keeping good on at least one new years resolution, as this is my second blog this week.  I would really like to find a quick way to integrate blogging into my other classes as well.  I think it provides the students with a rare chance to express themselves.

All in all, I think I am ready.

By the way, way to go Mountaineers!!!

New Year's Resolution

Well today was a very productive day thanks to the snow, but I am getting anxious to start the next semester.  Here are a couple of my new year's resolutions.

1. Blog at least twice a week if not more.  I expect my students to do the same, so why not.

2. Be more structured in my teaching.  Have a plan and go for it.

3. Have high expectations.  With every passing year, I am finding that the higher I set my expectations, the higher level of achievement my students reach.

I am ready to start my new group of globaloria students down the path of computer programming.

That brings me to my final teaching resolution.  My main goal this semester is to make my classes more interactive and technology oriented.

It won't be an easy road, but I will stay optimistic!
